The Specialised Second Opinion Service is a fast-track, standalone offering designed to provide clarity for individuals recovering from illness or injury due to work-related incidents or motor vehicle accidents.
This multidisciplinary assessment ensures that recovery is progressing as expected and offers expert recommendations to realign the course of future rehabilitation.
Designed by the experts at Phoenix Occupational Medicine and Guardian Exercise Rehabilitation, our experienced medical and allied health professionals conduct a comprehensive assessment of an individual’s overall recovery status. This “point-in-time” evaluation confirms whether the current treatment plan is suitable. If necessary, we will reset the rehabilitation pathway to ensure the best possible recovery.
The Specialised Second Opinion Service provides clear, actionable insights that support and design a holistic recovery plan for individuals on workers’ compensation or motor vehicle injury insurance claims.
The Specialised Second Opinion Service provides clarity when existing treatment options no longer support the participant’s recovery or when there is uncertainty about the next steps in rehabilitation and returning to work or daily life.
Need a second opinion? This assessment service guides recovery pathways, ensuring that the right steps are being taken to prevent delays and avoid potential complications.
Please note, the SSOS is not an independent medical examination (IME) – it is a rapid assessment service with a concise report and does not replace an IME.
Our multidisciplinary assessments are led by occupational and environmental physicians with extensive experience in managing work-related injuries and illnesses, ensuring informed decisions at every stage of recovery.
The assessment offers personalised recommendations for the individual, their treating team, employers, and insurers, ensuring that treatment and recovery plans are aligned with the person’s specific needs and job requirements.
We go beyond assessing physical recovery, considering all factors that impact recovery—from diagnosis and treatment effectiveness to workplace conditions and the mental well-being of the insured individual.
Employers and insurers gain peace of mind knowing that injured or ill employees/claimants are on the right path to recovery, reducing the risk of re-injury, minimising the likelihood of long-term claims, and promoting a comprehensive, holistic recovery.
The assessment includes both an allied health physical evaluation and a consultation with a specialist medical practitioner, covering:
– The types of work the individual can safely perform at present.
– Potential roles the individual may be able to undertake based on their occupational history.
– Treatment recommendations to enhance activities of daily living (ADLs) and work function.
– Additional recommendations to support a holistic recovery.
The SSOS can be requested when current treatment options are no longer effectively supporting the worker’s progress or if there is uncertainty about the next steps in rehabilitation and returning to work or daily life.
The Specialised Second Opinion Service is available through in-person assessments in Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Springfield, and Toowoomba.
