Who is an Occupational and Environmental Physician (OEP)?
Occupational and Environmental Physicians (OEPs) are medical specialists within the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. Their primary role is to prevent workplace injury and illness through programmes like health surveillance and employment medicals. However, when accidents occur, they are the specialists in helping people return to normal living and work.
At Phoenix Occupational Medicine, our team is led by OEPs, and we are an accredited training site for doctors aspiring to become OEPs.
Why Are You Seeing a Doctor at Phoenix Occupational Medicine?
Workcover Injury Management
Your GP or another specialist may refer you to an OEP for expert management of a workplace injury or illness. Our goal is to help you return to normal living and work as efficiently as possible. We prioritise quick appointments, and in most cases, we can see you within a week for an initial assessment.
Why Would Your GP Refer You to Us?
If you have multiple health conditions alongside your injury, such as back pain and anxiety or a shoulder injury and diabetes, we provide the time and expertise needed to create a tailored recovery plan.
Why Would Your Surgeon Refer You to Us?
Your surgeon may refer you to us for several reasons. If surgery is not required or not necessary yet, we can help manage your recovery and prevent deconditioning before surgery. After surgery, we assist with post-operative rehabilitation to help you regain strength and return to normal activities. Additionally, if your recovery plateaus or stalls, we work with you to develop a tailored rehabilitation plan, ensuring you continue to make progress and achieve the best possible outcome.
On The Right TrackĀ® Assessment
Your GP may refer you to Phoenix Occupational Medicine for an assessment if your injury is not healing as quickly as expected.
What Can You Expect from This Appointment?
During the On The Right TrackĀ® Assessment, youāll be seen by an OEP and their team. The appointment typically includes:
If needed, imaging referrals will be arranged and explained thoroughly to avoid unnecessary concern. We collaborate with allied health professionals, such as exercise physiologists or physiotherapists, to help you regain strength and fitness. In cases where surgery is required, we can facilitate rapid access to the appropriate surgeon.
Throughout your treatment, we will keep your GP informed and provide any necessary information to your Return to Work Coordinator or insurer.
